A Grain-Free Diet

Divinity’s diet has changed several times in the past six months due to allergies, and changing tastes. When I first adopted Divinity, she had been eating a high-quality ocean fish diet she liked. Unfortunately, the ocean fish did not like her. My vet noticed long-term food allergy symptoms during the first two weeks I had her, so a diet change was necessary.

Over the course of the past six months I’ve tried several different brands and allergy formulas. Divinity has now settled on the following two foods she really likes, and that really like her.

  • Dick Van Patten’s Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Venison Formula that includes fresh sweet potatoes, fresh venison, canola oil, flaxseed, and no artificial preservatives, flavors, colors or bleached ingredients.
  • Sojos Grain-Free Fruit & Veggie Mix is a pre-mix that is combined with meat and water to create fresh, homemade dog food. Sojos includes sweet potatoes, carrots, broccoli, celery, apples, whole egg, flax meal, parsley leaf, calcium carbonate, carob powder, kelp powder, alfalfa, ginger root, and garlic.

One heaping teaspoon of canned pumpkin is added to the Natural Balance to help express her anal glands, and I bake or broil chicken, beef, or pork to mix in with the Sojos. Divinity especially enjoys the Sojos, and it certainly flushes her system.
