Back to basics

It’s necessary for Divinity to return to basic training for a while, as she no longer sits & stays on command. Even worse, unless Divinity is feeling cooperative, she no longer does much of anything I ask her to do.

Back to basics

During our first year together, Divinity & I went through months of intensive “Canine Good Citizen,” as well as “Therapy Dog” training. Divinity learned to sit, stay, and perform many other tasks on command. We managed to get through this training quickly, as Divinity is a fast learner. Divinity went from not knowing how to walk on a leash, to passing her Therapy Dog test in 10-months. Now however, it’s “see you later, alligator!”

Agility tunnel training

These pictures of Divinity in the agility tunnel are actually quite amusing. At the time these snapshots were taken, Divinity’s speed was slow, to molasses. Agility races are based on speed. However, the tunnels were great for training purposes. Fortunately, in the intervening years, Divinity has sped up considerably.

  1. I agree – back to basics is something you have to do all their life. I worked with my Doberman about 5 min a day – all her life – just running through the commands and the reward was just playing afterwards. I now have a Chihuahua and I see the commands disappearing as well. Like you I have to get back to basics and I’m sure she will be more obedient. A lot of obedience is for their protection like coming when necessary.

  2. Fortunately, Divinity stays close. Actually, she stays too close as taking pictures of her gets to be quite difficult.

If I move 10 feet, Divinity immediately moves 10 feet.
