Company Overview

Breed education, social events, dog shows, trailing and rescue of pure-bred bloodhounds.

General Information

The South Central Bloodhound Club (SCBC) was founded in 1996. The club was organized with primary goals of providing breed education, social activities for its members, and of providing a system for rescuing, adopting or re-homing bloodhounds within a seven state area: Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas.

The SCBC sponsors show events and other activities to help raise funds for rescue, educate others about this marvelous breed and encourage conscientious pet ownership. We are pleased to have you visit our site and would welcome any questions you might have regarding our beloved Bloodhound.

Here are some, but not all of the senior dogs currently available for adoption from the South Central Bloodhound Club.

Alex

Alex

Alex is a mature gal with a lot of love left to give! Alex loves to snuggle up with her people, go for rides in the car (riding shotgun of course), and check out what new adventures she can find in the yard.

Alex is fairly new to the SCBC Rescue Program after being sprung from the county pen, but seem to enjoy the family life. Alex is looking for a permanent foster or an adopter to help her get on the road to FURever!

Duke

Duke

Duke is 9-years old.

Duke has lived almost his entire life with one family. When they had a child they tried for over a year to acclimate him but he just couldn’t get comfortable. We found him a home with a family who had multiple dogs and after a time it appears he is just not able to handle a lot of commotion and he started growling at one of the new owners at times when approached on the couch. She became very uncomfortable and asked us to rehome him.

Duke is now with a foster in Oklahoma. Based on what they’ve told us we truly believe that Duke needs a home where he is an only dog or one with either a small dog or a very passive dog who will allow Duke to just chill. He is in the process of decompressing from stress that he’s felt for a long time and his bio may change substantially but for now this appears to be what he needs.

One other factor is he reacts badly to anyone who has consumed more than a couple of drinks so needs to be in a home where alcohol consumption is limited.

Ruby

Ruby

Meet Ruby! Haven’t heard my story? Grab a hankie, it’s a sad one.

I’m just an old girl that likes the simple life. According to my former owners, I am 11 years old. Life was going great until one day my people took me on an exciting car ride. The fun stopped when we arrived at the local animal shelter… I didn’t understand what I had done wrong. They dropped me off and all they wrote on the surrender paper was that they were having a baby. I was so scared in that place, but thankfully, the nice folks at SCBC showed up and took me to my foster home!

I am currently undergoing some tests for a liver problem and foster mom says I have to lose some weight, but boy do I love eating!

If you are interested in adopting me, I would do best in a quite home with no children or small animals (including cats). I am great with other dogs and love to play!

Senior Sunday – East Coast Maine Coon Rescue

This weeks Senior Sunday post focus’ on the East Coast Maine Coon Rescue based in Keansburg, NJ.

East Coast Maine Coon Rescue

Note: In memory of my beloved Maine Coon cat, Little Minx, this week’s Senior Sunday post will include senior cats!

From the East Coast Maine Coon Rescue website

The East Coast Maine Coon Rescue (ECMCR) is a 501c3 non-profit. We run on donations and volunteers. Our mission is to save Maine Coon and Maine Coon mixed cats and kittens from kill shelters and other bad situations. We place them in loving foster homes, providing food, shelter, toys, safety and love while they await their forever home with you.

ECMCR was born in 2009 through a dedicated group of volunteers. We have rescued and placed hundreds of Maine Coon cats and kittens and wish to continue growing and expanding.

We are a breed specific group, specializing in Maine Coons and Maine Coon mixes. By adopting from us, you are saving the life of these magnificent cats. Maine Coons are incredibly loving and loyal. They make perfect companions!

East Coast Maine Coon Rescue makes adopting a new furry family member easy. We have trained case managers who will be your matchmaker between you and your new cat/kitten. Our cats and kittens are sheltered in private, loving foster homes just waiting for you to adopt them.

Seniors have a lot to teach, we just need to be willing to watch, listen, and learn… (Divinity’s Dad, 2012)

Here are some, but not all of the senior cats currently available for adoption from the East Coast Maine Coon Rescue.

Socrates

Socrates

Socrates is in foster care in West Milford, New Jersey.

Socrates is a healthy, handsome brown classic tabby medium haired boy who absolutely adores his person. He loves attention, will sleep and
cuddle with you, will follow you around, loves petting and is curious about any bag you bring home with something in it.

Socrates has a dominant personality and wants something when he wants it. He is insistent when he wants attention. He wants all the attention and dislikes any other cat getting attention so he would do best in a home by himself.

Sasha (Not Yet Senior)

Sasha

Sasha AKA Pawtucktaway Alexandra is a Courtesy Post in Brooklyn, New York. For more information or to be considered for adoption, please contact Megan at mjw132@gmail.com.

Sasha is a gorgeous full Maine Coon with lots of personality who likes to be where the people are. Though not a lap cat, she will follow her people from room to room and sit next to them on the couch, often insisting that someone pet her head and neck. She is remarkably soft and sleek, and at 16-pounds is also captivating to look at. Those giant whiskers! Those tufty ears! Those paws!

Sasha’s hitch in life is that she is easily overstimulated. She tends to bring out the claws when petting turns into play, and she is rough and somewhat aggressive toward other cats. In her original home, Sasha was easily accommodated, but the addition of new household members including a cat and specifically a toddler have been increasingly stressful for her. Sasha needs to be in a home with no children, probably no other cats, and definitely no dogs.

Coco (Bonded Pair)
Coco (black) and Cody (white)

Coco (black) and Cody (white)

Coco is a Courtesy Post located in Neptune, NJ. Coco would like to be adopted with his buddy, Cody. For more information on these two boys, contact Katherine at khepburn52350@gmail.com. Coco and Cody need to be re-homed due to health issues of their current owner.

Here is what their owner had to say about Coco:

Coco is a King in his Castle. I call him my Cat/Dog because he follows me around from room to room, sits and lays by my feet, begs for food like a dog. He is very smart, knows when he has done something wrong. At night when it’s bedtime we have this little ritual. I shut off the television and say to Coco, “Come on Coco time to go night night.” (they sleep in the basement in their little houses) and Coco will lay down on the floor all stretched out waiting for me to slide him across the floor to the top of the stairs, tail wagging, looking at me with those big yellow owl looking eyes as if he were saying “Come on mommy, slide me again please, please, please.) and we just crack up. It’s a sight for sore eyes for sure.

Coco loves to be in the kitchen when I’m cooking, but I have to step over, step around him because he is always close by me and he will not move. He is my ride or die Cat/Dog. He has a wonderful personality. If he were a person, he would be sarcastically funny, arrogantly superior and extremely confident.”

Coco is special needs. He is Humulin-N 100 dependent. He takes 4 units every 12 hours on a daily basis. Eats MD-4 cat food.

Cody (white) and Coco (black)

Cody is a Courtesy Post located in Neptune, NJ. Cody would like to be adopted with his buddy, Coco. For more information on these two boys, contact Katherine at khepburn52350@gmail.com. Cody and Coco need to be re-homed due to health issues of their current owner.

Here is what their owner had to say about Cody:

Cody is a very lovable lap cat. He will let you pet him but only on his terms. You cannot approach him to quickly because he’ll get scared and run and hide. When he wants pets, he will come to you, lay at your feet, meow meow, touch your feet with his paw until you pet him. Then when you stop, if he hasn’t had his fill of pets, he will nibble at your leg.

Cody is more of a cat person than a people person. He loves being with Coco those two are too funny together. He loves to go outside on the porch but he will leave the porch if unattended. However, a couple times that he’s’ gotten loose, he went to the neighbors porch for a couple hours, then he came right back home. So I’ve learned that I cannot leave him unattended for a second or he will take advantage and go for it.”

I, Toto: The Autobiography of Terry, the Dog Who Was Toto

A member of a Cairn Terrier forum where I am a member recommended this delightful book. After reading it, and enjoying it thoroughly, I wanted to pass this on to the readers of Divinity’s blog.

I, Toto – Book Cover

I, Toto – Book Cover

During the expansion of the Ventura Freeway in Los Angeles, Willard Carroll unearthed a leather-bound scrapbook from a site that was once a pet cemetery. To his amazement, its yellowing pages contained the rags-to-riches story of Terry, the Cairn Terrier who played Toto in the enduring film The Wizard of Oz.

Note: Terry was the mother of Rommy, another movie Cairn terrier, who appeared in other films including Reap the Wild Wind (1942) and Air Force (1943).

Senior Sunday – Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado

This weeks Senior Sunday post focus’ on the Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado based in Ft. Collins, CO.

Dalmation Rescue of Colorado - logo

From the Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado website

The Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado, Inc. (DRC), a designated 501 (c)3 nonprofit organization, is not a shelter. We are a group of volunteers who work with rescued dogs by fostering them in our own homes whenever possible; hence treating them the same as one of our own. We will use a kennel or day care if necessary to save a dog, but that dog will move to a foster home as soon as possible.

All costs associated with the care of our dogs come from adoption donations and from the generosity of donors. We provide vaccinations, spaying/neutering, socialization and training of these dogs until a permanent home can be found. Our number one commitment is to the Dalmatians and Dalmatian Wannabes that come our way. We carefully screen all applicants and do home visits to assure each dog is placed in the best home for him/her and he/she is the best companion for that home.

Seniors have a lot to teach, we just need to be willing to watch, listen, and learn… (Divinity’s Dad, 2012)

Here are some, but not all of the senior, (and not quite senior) dogs currently available for adoption from the Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado.

Toby

Toby

Toby is an 8-year old Black Spotted Male and is located in Centennial, CO.

No, Toby is no Dalmatian, but Toby needs a home just the same. He appears to be a cross between a beagle and a wired haired breed, maybe Jack Russell? In the fall of 2016, Toby’s mom’s health began to fail severely and he could no longer stay with her. In early January, his mom passed away and one of her last requests was that Toby find a fabulous forever home and we want very much to fulfill that final wish. Toby had been a great companion for his mom and did live with cats and dogs in the past.

Today, Toby is in Centennial where he goes to the dog park most days and romps with a cute little Dalmatian in his foster home. He loves attention, is good in the house, uses the dog door and will sleep in a crate but he doesn’t figure he needs to. And he likes car rides too. Toby has been adopted before but it was not a good fit for him. He needs patience and understanding or he can become defensive.

Kristal (Bonded Pair)

Kristal

Kristal is a 7-year old Black Spotted Female located in Frederic, MI. Kristal and her sister Ruby, are a bonded pair.

Kristal (and “sister” Ruby) were confiscated by a big city shelter in TX. We were never told why. But these girls are near perfect. Whatever their earlier “issues” were, we see none of that. Since Ruby and Krystal are VERY bonded, we would like them to be adopted together.

The girls are not destructive, and are very good loose in the house, aside from wanting to sleep on the very top of your bed pillows! The poor things have no idea what toys are for, but they are happy girls, quiet, seldom bark except to greet you, submissive, excited for food and treats, and get along very well with the female foster dog. Both will sit and wait for their food dishes to be put down. Kristal is very smart, it only took her two days of watching the foster dog sit and get her food bowl first, and Kristal was sitting too, all on her own. These two sweethearts are going to be the perfect pair for someone’s home. They are delightful. They have no experience, that we know of, being around small animals nor young children. A well-fenced yard is a must so that these darling friends, “siblings”, or buddies can run and play safely.

Ruby (Bonded Pair)

Ruby

Ruby is 5-years old and is located in Frederic, MI. Ruby and her sister Krystal are a bonded pair.

Ruby (and “sister” Krystal) were confiscated by a big city shelter in TX. We were never told why. But these girls are near perfect. Whatever their earlier “issues” were, we see none of that. ‘Little’ sister Ruby, actually bigger than Krystal, is goofy, chubby, silly, very mellow, loves food, will high-five & hook her paw over your arm for attention. Ruby can be a bit grabby taking treats but she is learning to be “soft”, adores having her belly rubbed, walks very nicely on a leash, and loves people. Her ears are slightly stiff and a bit shrunken from hematomas (shaking ears too hard causing blood pooling).

Ruby is completely housebroken and also uses a dog door. It took Ruby weeks to learn that tho! These two sweethearts are going to be the perfect pair for someone’s home. They are delightful. They have no experience, that we know of, being around small animals nor young children. A well-fenced yard is a must so that these darling friends, “siblings”, or buddies can run and play safely.

Ranger

Ranger

Ranger is 6-years old and is located in Concordia, MO.

Ranger was a terribly starved stray in a central TX shelter. He weighed only 44-pounds but today he weighs 60-pounds! After sitting in the shelter for a month, he was moved to a foster home in Concordia MO where his condition, not surprisingly, greatly improved. Besides being totally emaciated, Ranger was heartworm positive, had hook worms and also broken teeth. Despite his terrible condition, Ranger was a sweet, lovable and loving companion.

Ranger has been a wonderful house guest, preferring one particular chair in the middle of everything. He is housebroken, crate trained, does not chew, is very dog social and very sweet with people. While he has met several cats and showed no interest, he has not lived with cats in his home. With the right introduction, it is likely that he could live with cats. Why this lovely dog was not found or claimed, we don’t know. Ranger‘s certainly a gem and with one of those easy-to-love personalities.

Xena

Xena

Xena is 6-years old and is located in Concordia, MO.

Xena, the Warrior Princess Dog, or Xena for short, was taken into animal control as a stray. Xena was severely underweight, covered in fleas and heart worm positive at that time. She has gained weight and is on heart worm treatment, and her health has greatly improved since arrival in her foster home in Concordia MO. If you want a companion with lots of personality, this is the girl for you!

Xena is good in the house, does like to sit on the furniture at times and will check out the counter tops and she is crate trained. Xena gets along well with other dogs, but she has not been around cats. She could be okay but we just don’t know. Xena also does well in the yard because she doesn’t dig or try to climb or jump the fence. She enjoys the sun and the space.

To learn more about Xena, click the link to her Dalmatian Rescue of ColoradoAdoption page

Hercules

Hercules

Hercules is 7-years old and is located in Houston, TX.

COURTESY POST. Hercules is a large Dalmatian x Lab mix who needs exercise and love! His dad sustained a terrible accident, leaving him unable to walk his beloved Herc. For the love of Hercules, we are trying to help him find a new home. He is housebroken, friendly with everyone and always looking to be petted. No problems with other dogs or kids. Hercules will chase cats or birds when he gets a chance but the only exercise that Hercules gets now is being on a 30-foot tether.

Hercules doesn’t try to chase cars but barks like crazy at motorcycles he sees. Herc loves to go to dog park, but there is no one any more to take him. He sleeps by the foot of his owner’s bed or by the front door. He got over chewing on things early on and he has never been in a crate. He doesn’t need one. Weighing about 80-pounds, Herc is ready for his ride to CO on a weekly transport if there is a home up north, or even stay in TX . Help Hercules, the gentle giant, find that forever home!

To learn more about Hercules, click the link to his Dalmatian Rescue of ColoradoAdoption page

Dax

Dax

Dax is 6-years old and is located in Manvel, TX.

Dax is our “S” dog…he came to us with Severe Sarcoptic mange, Skinny and covered in Sores. He is a boy that no one cared for, for sure! Pulled from a large city TX shelter after being left by his owner with another dog, Dax took awhile to make healthy and presentable, and he is finishing his slow kill treatment for heartworms. Boy, his owner really was a louse!

Dax is housebroken, does prefer female dogs to males, but is learning to be social. He has not learned to be cuddly yet, but we expect with time he sure could, it’s just that it is so new to him. We know that Dax missed out on all that most dogs enjoy in life. He definitely does not like to be dragged around by the collar, but who would? He might nip if you do that. So, best with no young children, and no seniors as he is a strong boy just now learning to mind his strength. An experienced dog owner would be best for Dax his issues are not for the first time dog owner. His leash work is fairly good though, he is crate trained and does know sit, but there are many more things for poor Dax to still learn.

To learn more about Dax, click the link to his Dalmatian Rescue of ColoradoAdoption page

Sparky

Sparky6

Sparky is a 7-year old male who is located in Jonah, TX.

Sparky had once been a house dog and was then tossed outside to live. He was in the local shelter several times because the owners did not have a secure fence and he was running the neighborhood. The shelter asked us to take him so that they did not have to return him to his owners and luckily they did not want him. The boy was just lonesome and bored and he managed to get out of the fence to have a good time. Today in a foster home in Georgetown, Mr. Sparky has shown that he is fine in a 4’ fence and with female dogs and mellow male dogs, both large and small. He is very respectful of his foster sibling’s space. Sparky loves to have your attention, just like all Dalmatians.

Where you go, Sparky will be right by your side! He has a quiet nature, is housebroken and crate trained, and this boy is ready for that loving home that he should have had all along. He seems to like kids but has only met them through the fence, where he did give little fingers big kisses. No cats, however! Sparky is great on a lead (unless he sees a cat) and knows sit. He is 7-yrs old, neutered, up-to-date on vaccines and currently undergoing treatment for heartworms. DRC will provide meds and support for continued treatment. Sparky is a good boy and will make someone an amazing companion.
